On Tuesday evening, Étienne Julien, a fourth-generation winemaker from Domaine Gérard Julien et Fils in Comblanchien will here at Bar Boulud, pouring two vintages of his Côtes de Nuits-Villages from magnum. We are looking forward to tasting with Étienne and hearing his perspective on the 2014 and 2015 vintages in Burgundy. The domaine, with holdings in Comblanchien, as well as Échezeaux and Nuits-Saint-Georges, has about ten hectares under vine. Étienne is a young winemaker to watch.
On Wednesday evening, we will be joined by Thibaud Clerget from Domaine Yvon Clerget. Thibaud’s family traces its roots in Burgundy back to the 13th Century, and after apprenticeships at Hudelot-Noëllat and Henri Boillot, he took over the family domaine in 2015. With amazing holdings in Volnay, particularly notable is their Volnay 1er Cru ‘Clos du Verseuil’. At just 0.68 hectares, this monopole is saddled just between the famed Taillepieds and Bousse d’Or vineyards. Thibaud will be pouring the family’s Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2017, a vintage that many winemakers and sommeliers are very excited about in its youth.
On Thursday, the famed Christian Moreau will be joining us from Chablis, pouring his Blanchot Grand Cru 2016. The domaine dates back to 1814, when a barrel cooper Jean-Joseph Moreau began a négociant business in Chablis. From the family’s 12 hectares of vines, and with the help of his son Fabien, Christian makes terroir-focused wines focusing on the singular expressions of their tremendous vineyard holdings. With parcels in Blanchot, Les Clos, Vaudésir, and Valmur, Christian is an expert on the nuances of the Grand Cru hill of Chablis.
