DELIGHTFUL CÔTE DE BEAUNE ROUGE OUT OF LARGE FORMAT | 9/19 – 9/24

The David E. Koch theatre reopens this week with NYC Ballet and we’re celebrating with you with a variety of elegant, precise, and possibly whimsical (these adjectives may also apply to ballet, right?) Côte de Beaune, Burgundian Reds.

Beaune reds are softer and lusher than reds from the Côte de Nuits, Beaune is warmer and wetter and ridden with half-clay-half-chalk soils that produce beautifully supple and bouncy Pinot Noir. We have a variety of regions and production styles to open this week:

First open is Pierre Guillemot’s old-vine Savigny-les-Beaune. An eighth-generation farmer, I’m expecting his Savigny-les-Beaune to be intensely open and energetic, with plenty of that traditional, juicy Beaune character.

Wednesday we’ll open Claire Naudin’s cult-classic « Orchis mascula » named for the early-purple-orchid. From three plots in the Côte de Beaune, produced with stem-y clusters and little sulfites, this wine is a mystical, soft, and complex Pinot Noir; a total experience.

On Friday, we’ll open another cult favorite—Domaine Rougeot’s « Les Vaux ». Using fruit sourced from a single, biodynamic vineyard in northern Meursault, Pierre-Henri produces a remarkable Bourgogne Rouge; one that’s expressively floral and spicy.

And finally, for the weekend, we have a few magnums of Clos de la Chapelle’s 2017 Premier Cru « Les Teurons ». Just west of Beaune, the old vines in Teurons produce sophisticated, balanced wines. We’re excited for this one.
