Bastille Day

Please mark your calendars for Saturday afternoon & evening, when we will be opening a 15-Liter Nebuchadnezzar of Champagne from Pol Roger to celebrate Bastille Day.  We will also have can can dancers for part of the day, and a special Bastille Day menu outside on our sidewalk café.

While many of us have World Cup fever, it’s not the only game in sports right now, just yesterday the Tour de France began in the Vendée. The Tour de France is an amazing race of endurance that showcases the vast beauty of French Countryside, moving this year from the Loire to Brittany, and then to Normandy and up to Northern France and the historic pavé cobblestones of Roubaix. The race will then transfer to the beautiful Lake Annecy in the Savoie, where the race will begin in earnest in the beauty of the Alps. After the mountains, the race will snake through the south, moving through Provence and the Languedoc and into the Pyrénées, before making the long transfer back to Paris for the final sprint on the famed Champs Élyssés.

This week at Bar Boulud, we will do our own Tour de France, beginning in the Loire, with Muscadet in 3-Liter from Domaine de la Pépiere, from the famed cru of Clisson. We will stay in the Loire, and enjoy Saumur Blanc from Thierry Germain on Tuesday, before making our way to the Jura for Tissot’s spectacular Poulsard ‘D.D.’ Moving from the Jura Mountains, past Lyon and into the Northern Rhone, where we will open Patrick Jasmin’s Côte-Rôtie2007. Friday evening, we will arrive in the towering beauty of the Alps, opening one of our favorites, Dupasquier’s Pinot Noir de Savoie 2012 en magnum. Saturday, we turn north towards Paris for Bastille Day, opening our biggest bottle yet, the 15-Liter Nebuchadnezzar of Pol Roger Brut RéserveChampagne, this promises to be a memorable bottle!
