Women in Wine

This week at Bar Boulud we will be opening some very special wines from some of our favorite female-led estates in France, Italy and Spain.

Monday evening, we will open a Jeroboam of Burgundy from Chandon de Briailles, their Pernand-Vergelesses 1er ‘Île de Vergelesses’ Rouge 2010. Led by Claude de Nicolay, who took over the estate from her mother in 1988, is meticulous in her farming, and produces truly brilliant Burgundy, especially for those who are fans of nervy, vibrant, whole-cluster style of Burgundy. The ‘Île de Vergelesses,’ or ‘Island of Vergelesses’ is a Premier Cru located not too far from the hill of Corton, and is named after its peculiar isolation from neighboring vineyards by old stone walls built long ago. In Jeroboam from the 2010 vintage, this promises to be a treat.

We will continue the week with a few of our favorites from Elisabetta Foradori, Athénaïs de Béru, López de Heredia, Olga Raffault, and Julie Benau. And please take note of the Double-Magnum of 1990 ‘Les Picasses’ from Raffault, it’s really going to be a special week at Bar Boulud.
