Here at all of Chef Daniel’s restaurants, we’ve long had a good relationship with the wines of Gérard Seguin. One of the more-renowned lieux-dits they bottle is ‘La Justice,’ located in Gevrey-Chambertin.
I’ve recently received a handful of 3Ls of the 2018 vintage. We poured through the same size of the 2017s some months back, and I was generally struck by the easy accessibility of the youthful vintage. 2018, of course, is different, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the wine is showing.
In my experience, these wines are intensely pleasurable, even when young. With a judicious use of oak, the fruit is often expressive and seductive, and the enjoyability is clear. Paramount, of course, is that we have multiple days to watch them open up as well.
